What is a Business Plan?

A business plan is a document that is generally used by a business owner to raise capital for his/her business. It describes the business or proposed business venture in enough detail for the bank or investors to be able to make a decision about whether or not to invest in the business. This is however, the most limited use of the business plan.  

The real value of a business plan lies not in the printed plan but in the structured, analytical thinking required to formulate the plan. The process of planning will help you to think things through carefully, study and research those things that you are not sure about. It will also lead you to consider your ideas carefully. 

Although this will take time now, it is time well used. Costly even disastrous mistakes can be avoided with a well-researched business plan.

Options for Assistance with Drafting or Writing your Business Plan

We basically provide Five options to our clients.

 

Option One

We provide you with a template for a business plan and the narrative that guides you to draft the business plan. Included are two feedback sessions by us in the form of remarks and suggestions to your plan. Feedback can be done via telephone or by e-mail. Should you need more assistance than the aforementioned, additional assistance can be negotiated at an additional fee.   

Remarks

 This is the option for those clients that have done business plans before or those that prefer the DIY option.  

 The client can be anywhere in the world as we can render this service via e-mail.

Option Two

Business Plan Questionnaire

We send you a questionnaire covering the information needed to draft your business plan. You complete it and return it to us. We then draft the business plan from the information supplied and send you the final business plan in a Word (for the narrative) and Excel (for the financial plan) format. You can then print and bind the business plan so that you can hand out copies to the bank, investors or your business partners.

The questionnaire is compiled in an easy to understand manner. We will gladly assist you with any further information or assistance you may need.

Remarks

This is the option for those clients who want to be involved in the collecting of the information for their business plan but need someone to help them in converting this information in to a professional looking business plan, that will be acceptable to the bank, investors and their business partners.

This option also allows the client to determine the tempo of the planning process and will give the client the benefit of our experience to customise the plan to their specific need and situation.

Option Three

The same as option one, but we break the business plan down into three parts and help you and guide you through the drafting process. This option includes four feedback sessions by us in the form of remarks and suggestions to your plan. Feedback can be done via telephone if local or else by e-mail. Should you need more assistance than the aforementioned, additional assistance can be negotiated at a fee.   

Remarks

This is the option for those clients that are comfortable to draft most of the plan themselves. They only need a template and some mentoring and guidance by us during the drafting process

The client can be anywhere in the world as we can render this service via e-mail.

Option Four

This is the comprehensive hands-on service. We personally mentor you through the business plan drafting process by means of one-on-one meetings. At the first meeting we discuss and debate the first section of the plan in detail with you to make sure that you understand what you need to do, you then go home to do the homework. At the next meetings we will first discuss the homework done by you and debate any part of it with you as and when necessary. Secondly we will discuss and explain the next section of the business plan with you so that you will be able to do the necessary homework for the next session. This process will continue until the business plan is completed. 

Remarks

This is the option for those clients who have a more complicated business idea and need a comprehensive mentoring service.

It is also for those client who are not comfortable to do the business plan on their own and need the services of a mentor who can act as a sounding board for their ideas and  also challenge their thinking to make sure that they consider their plan very carefully.

This option allows you to determine the tempo of the process and will give you the benefit of our experience to customise the plan to your specific situation. This option can only be followed if you are within the geographic area of one of our mentors.

Fees

The fee for the above option is R600 per hour (normal fee R750 per hour) and the number of hours needed will be determined by the client and how complicated  the business plan is. Our experience has been that generally 20 hours are enough for a standard business plan. More complicated business plans may need more hours

Option Five

Free Business Plan Template !! (Only available to new and existing small business owners)

Do you really want to do it yourself? Well, we have the template for you. The template does not include the financial plan for the business plan. Our experience is that most new and existing business owners do not feel comfortable to draft a financial plan that is acceptable to the banks and investors. To assist you as business owner we have developed a comprehensive financial model projecting financial figures over a 60 month period. (It covers all the information generally needed by banks and investors) We will gladly assist you with the drafting of a financial plan from as little as R1000 depending on how complicated your financial plan is. 

Our experience have been that it is a good idea to start with your financial plan first as that will give you a very good idea whether your business idea is viable and we will evaluate it to see whether you are realistic in your approach. Once that is achieved you then start with the narrative part of the business plan

What is a Business Turnaround Strategy?

It is a detailed plan of action to save a business or enterprise that is heading for financial ruin or distress.

How does one determine a turnaround strategy?
